Share vital information with your clients on vehicle, home, health and spending before they leave on their annual break.
Vehicle Maintenance: A well maintained vehicle is always the safest option but there are a few checks to be done before hitting the road. Pre-checks must be done at least two weeks before leaving and minor checks repeated a day before. TIPS: Check tyre pressure, including spare; jumper cables, flashlight and 2litres of water are packed. Have contact numbers for next of kin and roadside assistance emergency number with you.
Home safety: Hand over a spare set of keys to a responsible person to handle any emergency cases that may arise. TIPS: Any visible water leaks or dripping must be taken care of before leaving. Unplug all appliances that are not required while away, except for the fridge. Switch off the geyser at the distribution board. Ensure the alarm is working and that you have an emergency assist number.
Health safety: Visit the travel clinic for advice on precautions to take before travelling. For hot destinations, carry sun screen and drink plenty of water and always have an emergency number saved on your cell phone.
Spending Wisely: Financial pressure is probably worse in December than any other month given all the temptation to spend during the festive season. Have a budget for shopping during your getaway and stick to it. Overspending can have a negative impact on your credit rating. Shop around for seasonal bargains and compare prices before making a purchase.
