Public Sector Strike - costs more than just money
2007/07/06
The public sector strike held in the first three weeks of June had an almost crippling affect on many industries, but particularly in the delivery of essential emergency services, where a human life depends on a quick response.
“Our biggest setback was with government emergency services going on strike and having to find as many available public ambulance providers as possible to assist us with our emergency calls,” says Rouxlé van Molendorff, Europ Assistance SA Chief Operating Officer.
“Frantic callers who needed urgent medical assistance were left stranded while our agents searched for private ambulances that could help them, and this took up valuable time, life saving time. Callers were frightened and concerned and the call centre agents were equally frustrated by the lack of available essential services.”
“At Europ Assistance SA, we’re in the business of saving lives, and our trained call takers make every effort to ensure that emergency assistance is always dispatched as quickly as possible and as a result of the public sector strike, many people’s lives were put in great danger, ” ends Rouxlé.
