The accident management system that doesn’t crash
2006/03/23
Imagine for a moment you are in an accident, luckily you are unscathed, but the damage to your vehicle could run into thousands of Rands, you’re going to be late for your meeting and suddenly seven tow-trucks arrive on the scene.
In this situation, it is easy to fall prey to unscrupulous people, whether they are involved in the accident, or are there ostensibly to assist.
Europ Assistance South Africa (EASA) has a valuable new product, known as Accident Manager, that promises to assist you in the event of a motor vehicle accident of any magnitude. “It takes just one call to set the ball in motion,” explains EASA’s Rouxlé van Molendorff, the Chief Operations Officer, “our highly trained operatives have all the skills needed to deal with any emergency, from a minor bumper bashing to a multiple vehicle collision.”
The call comes through to the EASA Call Centre, where the caller is presented with various options, from assistance for a medical emergency to legal advice, assistance with towing of a vehicle and more.
“The most important feature of this product is that it fulfils all the requirements an accident may result in, and clients are assisted with all the relevant questions to ask after an accident. This is especially important when the file is handed over to the EASA vehicle recovery contact centre,” adds Rouxlé.
The recording of these answers is crucial, especially if the case goes to court. This could happen anytime up to two years after the event, when memories of the accident may have blurred.
“The recovery agents will gather information such as weather conditions, road markings, time of day and so on, all which play a role in determining the guilty party, and the compensation necessary. These same agents are also responsible for the recovery of monies due to either the insured or uninsured party,” adds Rouxlé.
EASA’s Accident Manager is a complete incident management system that makes everyone’s lives, from the parties involved in the incident to the tow-truckers, a little bit easier. The product even allows for a message to be conveyed to the people at your destination, to inform them of the situation.
