The current situations in both Thailand and India has resulted in an increase in calls to travel insurance assistance company Europ Assistance South Africa. The company is advising South African clients who have already purchased airline tickets to these affected areas to get as much information as possible about the safety and travel insurance cover “terms and conditions” prior to travelling. Specific details related to individual policies may be affected by the current events.
Diana Sharp, Head of Emergency Travel Assistance division at Europ Assistance South Africa, says, “we have Travel Management Experts available 24 hours to give advice and provide emergency assistance to all our clients.
“We have a strong medical support team in both India and Thailand available to assist our clients who may be compromised,” she said.
Europ Assistance has approximately 208 agents and 36 offices worldwide, including South Africa. The Europ Assistance Worldwide group has a Crisis Alert centre linked to all their offices and events such as these are managed through constant communication and crisis management protocols.”
Sharp added that a medical support team was on standby in South Africa to travel to affected areas if necessary.
The company suggested those concerned about the safety of relatives in India and Thailand should contact the Department of Foreign Affairs directly for assistance.
